Helping Families and Schools Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica in October 2025.

The storm has passed.
The recovery is still unfolding.

Months later, families are rebuilding homes, children are returning to damaged schools, and communities are working to restore stability—often with limited resources and support.

Jamaica Strong exists to ensure recovery continues, not stalls.

Where Jamaica Stands Today

When the headlines fade, recovery becomes harder, not easier.

Right now:

This phase, the long middle of recovery determines whether communities fully recover or remain stuck in survival mode.

The world moves on. But for these families, the work continues every day.

YOUR IMPACT

This isn’t short-term charity.
It’s an investment in stability, dignity, and long-term resilience.

Message From Devon Harris

Three-time Olympian. Founder, Keep On Pushing Foundation. Jamaican.

In bobsled, the moment after impact, when you’re fighting to stay in control, matters as much as the push at the start.

That’s when discipline, teamwork, and follow-through decide what happens next.

Jamaica is in that moment now.

The storm tested communities across the island. Recovery is where character shows.

Families are rebuilding. Children are learning under difficult conditions. Progress is happening but it depends on sustained support, not fading attention.

These are not strangers. These are families. Parents. Children. Elders.
People who are rebuilding, but need us to stay in the race with them.

Jamaica Strong means staying engaged until the work is done.

If you can help, now is the time.

Why This Phase Matters

The hardest phase of disaster recovery isn’t the first week. It’s months 3-12.

Research shows this is when communities either stabilize or slide backward:

When media attention fades, funding often drops 60-70% even though recovery needs remain high.

When support continues, communities regain momentum and rebuild stronger.

Right now, Jamaica is in that critical window.

YOU'RE NOT DOING THIS ALONE

427 supporters have already contributed to Jamaica’s recovery.

Supporters from around the world, individuals, families, and organizations are staying committed because they understand that recovery takes time.

This is what sustained community looks like.

Funds are deployed on an ongoing basis as recovery priorities are identified—school repairs, supply distribution, and medical support happen continuously.

Recovery happens in phases. Initial emergency response addressed immediate survival needs—rescue, evacuation, emergency food and water. Now we’re in the rebuilding phase: repairing damaged schools, replacing lost supplies, helping families stabilize. This phase requires sustained support and takes months, sometimes years. Studies show that the period 3-12 months after disaster is when communities either fully recover or fall into long-term hardship. That’s where Jamaica is right now.

You're Not Doing This Alone

The storm tested Jamaica.
Recovery is proving its resilience.

But recovery only succeeds when support doesn’t fade.

Three months later, families are still rebuilding.
Children are still learning in damaged schools.
Communities are still fighting their way back.

They need to know they haven’t been forgotten.

If you’re in a position to help, your contribution supports rebuilding where it matters most.
